Winter brings snow to Manson and to the surrounding mountains.  Winter activities include cross country skiing, downhill skiing and snowboarding, and snowmobiling.

Snow accumulation in the areas around the lake is normally limited to about 12", but some years there will be snow depths up to 24".  All the roads and highways are continually plowed and usually bare and dry.

Cross country skiing.  There are miles of groomed cross country ski trails at Echo Ridge.  These trails vary from beginner to intermediate and are suitable for all ages.  Often during the winter Echo Ridge is above the low cloud cover that settles over the valley and skiers find bright sun and great views.  On the many clear days the views of Lake Chelan are spectacular.  For more information, including a map of the Echo Ridge trails, visit the website of the Lake Chelan Nordic Ski Club.

Down hill skiing and snowboarding.  Echo Valley Ski Area is a small ski hill operated by local volunteers.  Its a great spot for kids to have a fun day and its a short and easy drive from Manson or Chelan.  In dry years with limited snowfall there may be limited operations but usually the area is open and operating on weekends through the winter.  In addition to skiing there are slopes for tubing.  For more information visit the website of the Echo Valley Family Ski Area.

Snowmobiling.  There are hundreds of miles of groomed snowmobile trails in the hills and mountains around the Lake Chelan Valley, with many more groomed trails and forest roads within easy driving distance of Manson.  Snowmobiling is a popular sport in North Central Washington and Manson is a great central location to stay while participating in this activity.  For more information visit the website of the Lake Chelan Snowmobile Club.
